History

This event was devised to encourage exploration of the rolling countryside around Seagrave, and to raise money to help towards the refurbishment and upkeep of Seagrave Memorial Hall and to support other good causes.

The inspiration for ‘the Challenge’ came from Chris Thompson, a resident of Seagrave & a keen eventer who took part in similar walking/running/cycling events such as the Belvoir challenge, Viking challenge, Waltham Winder, and Sherrard Stride.

This is now the seventh year of the event and the route will be similar to last years, although it is is yet to be confirmed due to private land being used. It should be a similar distance to previous year’s routes (of 15.7 miles).

The route has been designed to take in all the highest ground possible along the way to maximise the challenge and give the best views, weather permitting (total ascent 860ft).

We will be using footpaths, bridle ways, some private farm land, minor roads, and have been allowed to make our own route through Prestwold Estate Land, which is not normally a right of way; this is thanks to Mr Edward Packe-Drury-Lowe. Along the route you will enjoy views of Prestwold Hall, Stanford Hall, Charnwood Forest and the rolling Wolds countryside and Villages.

Refreshments will be available free throughout the event.

Our thanks once more go to our army of residents who provide admin, marshalling and catering services and of course make our famous crumble & custard for those completing the course.
